June 1 – I was given a run through of the LabVIEW program used for the scintillating fiber tank by Ann Marie. Using Dr. Jones’ recommendations for the pipe flow project, I continued to research each component. I tried to find information on the pressure drop across each component (like a resistor in an electrical circuit). I was able to find the pressure drop across the heat exchanger. I was also given the specs for the CPU blocks that will be used in the circuit. Using the hydraulic analogy, I started constructing a pipe “circuit” that relates the flow rate and pressure in each piece of the pipe diagram.

June 2 – Using Bernoulli’s equation, I calculated the pressure difference across the pump in the diagram. This depended on the individual pressure drops across each component in the setup. This gives us access to the flow rate through the pump, which will in turn reveal the flow rate through the GPU and CPU. I researched many aspects of the project.

June 3 – I was unsure about a particular part of the equations I am using to model the pipe setup, so I was given a second opinion by Alex. He couldn’t find a problem in my work, so (until I talk to Jones) I modeled the system and found expressions for all the pertinent information for the setup.
