I mainly painted fibers this month. The results and observations are on the Fiber Painting page. Early in the month the paint brush began to spray intermittently, and painting became harder as the month went on. One day when the brush was not working Ann Marie noticed that the seal where the tube goes through the lid for the paint jar was loose. Using a lid with a good seal improved the paint stream remarkably.

Besides painting, photographing, and measuring fibers, I worked early in the month on a problem in LabVIEW: we could not use the "Basic Serial Write and Read" VI to turn on the new netBooter, though it worked for the old one. After some rabbit trails, I tried the suggestion of one discussion thread to use the Measurement and Automation Explorer to write strings to the device. While using the explorer I found the right string for controlling the netBooter. The difference between the strings for the old one and the strings for the new one is the termination character, \r instead of \n.

The last thing I did was to cut some scintillating fibers and sand them down to 2 cm in length to be fused to waveguides.
