December 18, 2012 - Made this section of the wiki, looked further into building a circuit for the thermocouple. The project may be too much work given the time constraints we are under. I would like to bring it up to Dr. Jones to see what his thoughts are.

I would like to run a test of the thermistor tomorrow by plotting the readings of the thermistor and heat gun as a functions of time. In this way, I can see how the thermistor compares to the heat gun and determine where to go from here on out.

December 20, 2012 - As I was about to admit my defeat to thermocouples everywhere, I stumbled across this integrated circuit! Just a few highlights of its abilities:

1. It provides cold junction compensation and amplification with differential input/single ended output. All in one pre-made circuit.

2. Its accuracy is +/- 3 degrees Celsius.

3. The IC is cheap and pre-made. I'll only have to add one resistor (maybe) and some terminals...

To-Do List For the Next Week

  • Order integrated circuit
  • Hook up thermocouples and test them with the circuit and DAQ.
  • Change the LabView program as necessary. (Also, make it more user friendly)
  • Flush and Clean the piping system. (I may have to wait for Jim to get back from break for this)
  • Keep room 405 clean
  • As soon as collars for the splicing unit come in, put them together and start splicing attempts.
