These are the earliest attempts at splicing 2x2mm square fibers using modified equipment for the splicing unit.  There remains improvements to be made.  The main goals are to fuse two fibers without having any of the melted material leak out of the ferules, and to observe a high percentage of light transmission through the fused polystyrene.
