10/31: Jim said we should use feeler gauges to misalign fibers beyond the end of the popsicle stick. We can have the feeler gauges between the popsicle stick and a straight edge. We can try small 3D-printed pieces that fit between the fiber ends and where they would normally contact the alignment jig.

We may try both misaligning the blocks along with the fibers and aligning the blocks normally while the fibers are correctly aligned.

10/1: The popsicle sticks are about 9.5" long. I want a bundle of scraps probably a little longer, maybe 11". If they are too long, I can cut them shorter.
