Objectives: To assemble the computing tools required to complete
the design of the detector, and to educate the collaboration in their
use.
Time:
from 9:00am on Monday, May 21 to
5:00pm on Wednesday, May 23.
Place: Physics 121 conference room.
The Physics building (above) is one wing of the Gant Science complex which is
shaped like a U. Physics is the bottom of the U. There is a
clickable campus map available on the web. Unfortunately
if you print it out, the printout is not clickable.
Seats: Next door to the conference room is a small departmental
computer lab. For the duration of the meeting we have been granted
priority for 8 seats there equipped with either Linux or NT stations.
A 10/100Mb ethernet switch will be available with 7 free ports to hook
up notebooks that participants bring with them. In case we overflow that
room, 6 additional seats are available on the fourth floor.
Parking:
Across the street facing the Physics building is a parking garage, charging
$6 per day. Limited visitor parking is available on a first-come basis.
Directions:
Driving directions from the airport can be found
here. The
Best Western Inn is located about 7 miles south of campus on Rte 195.
You will find out that Rte 195 is the Big Road around here, with one
lane in each direction (even on bridges). To find the Best Western
just follow the directions to campus, but then instead of turning into
campus at the white-steepled church, continue straight through Storrs
down 195 until you see the Best Western on your right. In case of any
problems, call me either at work (860)486-3512 or home 429-1343.
You should enter the Physics building from the south end (above picture
is looking south). The first floor is up one flight of stairs.
Lodging:
There are a limited number of choices for accomodations. There is a
fairly complete list provided
here.
An idea of the area covered by the listing is provided by
this online map. Undergraduate graduation
will take place on Saturday May 19, and grad graduation will be Sunday May 20.
Visitors will mostly have cleared out by Sunday night, so there should
be not too much difficulty finding rooms.
